Retrofit Installation
A retrofit installation is a good option if your windows are in poor condition, but the perimeter surrounding the window frame is not deteriorated, or if you prefer to keep your existing interior casings intact.
Full Frame Installation
You would choose the full frame installation if your existing window is in such bad shape that nothing is worth saving; even the perimeter frame and trim are in bad shape. In this case, you could decide to replace the whole window as an entire unit. This would involve removing the existing casing, insulation and entire window frame right back to the wood studs within the walls of your home and reinstalling the new window, shims, insulation, and casings. This type of installation is also referred to as a brick to brick installation, or a complete tear out.
